"Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds".        ~ James 2:18 ~

At Ebenezer we believe that the gospel needs to be demonstrated in action, not just words. We support two specific charities throughout the year;

  • Rainbow of Hope - serving homeless people and vulnerable families in Cardiff
  • Everyone's Child Romania (ECR) - working with families in Romania

Rainbow of Hope....

Rainbow of Hope is a Christian Charity who share the gospel message and provide practical support for people in our capital city. Projects include the Paradise Run, providing food and drink to the homeless in Cardiff, every night of the year.

We have a box in our church where people can put their donations. Each time the box is full we make sure it gets to Cardiff where it is needed. We also use our Harvest Celebrations to raise awareness of the charity's work and encourage more people to support their efforts. Since 2012 YG Trelyn have also used their harvest assemblies to support the work in Cardiff.

The Bible teaches us that Jesus showed compassion to the "whosoever" who called on his name - very often vulnerable people looked down on by their own society.
In Ebenezer everyone is important, everyone has a part to play, and the food goes to "whosoever" receives it on the streets of Cardiff - the gospel in action!

Mrs. Bevan (left, with her daughter Mary) is one of Eb's oldest members. Each year she knits over 100 pairs of gloves for the homeless on the streets of Cardiff. She is currently at the young age of 93 - and still going strong. Now we know that envy is a sin, but the truth is many people in Ebenezer fancied the gloves themselves! The result - dozens more knitted, people in church buying them, and more money raised which will be forwarded to Rainbow of Hope. Brilliant!

"Planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green" Ps 92:13

Liz explains to the children what happens at the centre in CardiffIn 2014 Gareth & some of the pupils from Trelyn took the food to Cardiff - to visit Rainbow of Hope's new HQ on the Broadway. It is good to see how the success of the project has led to increased resources and facilities for the charity to work from in Cardiff. It was also good for the children to see where the work takes place in Cardiff.

Everyone's Child Romania...

ECR works with some of the poorest families in Romania. They have all been affected by HIV Aids, through contaminated blood transfusions. Limited care, poverty, and prejudice from many in their society, these families rely on ECR for support. The vision is led by Paul Davies, a man local to the Blackwood area now living in Romania. ECR demonstrates the gospel of Christ - each one is precious, each one is loved, and with God there is always hope. Thanks to the help of Paul and the team, families have an improving quality of life, increased opportunities, including the chance of employment. Some of the children have become young adults. Some of the young adults are now becoming parents themselves - to children born free of HIV Aids...

In Ebenezer we give in a variety of ways, helping to provide financial support for the various projects. Money helps ECR to buy wood and basic food supplies to help families through the winter months. We have also organised a jewellery stall in the church at Eb - a "bring and buy" in the lead-up to Christmas. The church also supports events organised by the ECR committee, such as their sponsored walk in Bryn Bach Park - check out our news page to see if there's anything coming up. We would love for you to get involved!

Many of the projects focus on health, employment, future plans and provisions. Others are to improve the quality of "now". We take so much for granted - our food, our days out or our holidays, our material possesions. For many of these families a day out to the seaside in the summer of 2012 was a first - an opportunity for them to enjoy life to the full!
